Assignment: Elaboration

For this assignment you will use the same data set that you used during the lab (the one for your theme: workfam.sav, youth.sav (for education), adoles.sav, drugsm.sav, homeless.sav, relig.sav (religion)).

First, find out more information about the data set. Who were the original investigators? When was the study done? What was the original sample size? (hint: look for cases.count). What was the universe that was sampled? How was the study funded? Was it a mail, telephone or face-to-face (personal) survey? What else is important to know about it? Write a paragraph summarizing this.

Create two bivariate tables with the same dependent variable and different independent variables. Then you will create a third table (which in SPSS will actually look like several tables) that uses one of the independent variables as a control variable and the other as the independent variable. Just as in the lab, the dependent variable should form the rows and you should request column percents only.

Then you write a description of what you learned from each table (the bivariate tables and the table with the controls).

Make sure that you use the correct format for making tables as explained in Babbie and A Guide to Writing. Make the write up look as professional as possible.

Use the same data set that you used during the lab (unless told otherwise by me).
