Unit 3: Using Existing Research and Data; Doing Unobtrusive Research

This unit lasts two weeks. Pay attention to the class schedule so that you will know what to hand in each week. Also, please note that, there are 2 assignments. One must be handed in each week.

Goals:

For Using Existing Research and Data

Be able to access articles on a subject using resources such as CD ROMS and reference materials available in the library.

Be able to find published data in the library or on the internet.

Be able to identify organizations concerned with an area of interest.

Have a basic bibliography for your research proposal.

Have at least one set of published data or set of official statistics on your topic.

For Unobtrusive Research

Be able to list at least 4 types of unobtrusive research.

Be able to describe an appropriate use for each type of unobtrusive research.

Be able to explain the advantages of unobtrusive research.

Be able to distinguish between latent and manifest content.

Be able to describe a variety of unobtrusive measures.

Understand the concept of triangulation.
